A plague carrying ship has arrived in the docks. Harbour authorities
have impounded it by the breakwater near the Ship's Graveyard. The
ship is quarantined and patrolled by the Calimport Navy. It is
supposed to have come from Dambrath in the Deep South. It is known
that this country has a high proportion of Drow and suspicion
naturally falls upon them as the source of the contagion.
The fire in the municipal dump is getting worse. Several creatures
who had made homes in the waste have moved into neighbouring areas,
causing further disruption. A band of dwarvish adventurers led by
Thorin Rockshoulders, a cleric of Clangeddin have begun clearing
operations to hunt down the monsters. Gulguthra and Carrion Crawlers
are the major problems. The fire itself has engulfed a shanty town on
the edge of the dump and there have been many casualties.
There was a minor disruption at the Loviatar ceremony yesterday
afternoon. Reports are not clear, but it seems a fight broke out in
the crowd. A tall Chultean is believed to be responsible, and
witnesses claim he tried to murder a woman lying on the ground. It
also appears that an other-world creature was summoned in the
confusion. The Church Council of Calimport has censured Painmaster
Gulraven, the High Priest for letting loose such a creature on the
streets. An enterprising group of spectators apparently dealt with
the creature.
A pitched battle took place last night in Heaven's Lathe. Witnesses
claim it was a vendetta attack by Guild Angaril against Guild
Brandson. A number of casualties have been reported and a number of
fires extinguished.
Desert Raiders have attacked a caravan from Memnon about five miles
north of Calimport. This is the closest attack to the city for many
years. Caliph Djenispool has sent a message to the tribes warning
against further raids. It is believed the desert nomads have come
into possession of some powerful magic, which has bolstered their
courage. It is a worrying prospect. Contact has been lost, it is
said, with all agents sent to investigate.
The Vizier has dismissed rumours of an increase in taxes. Many
legitimate businessman have complained over the years about the tax
regulations, claiming they favour so called "Adventurers", otherwise
known as itinerant mercenary scoundrels. Tax regulations have been
"under review" for the last six months, so it is difficult to know
what may happen.
A very important document has come to light. It appears to be a list
of agents for "Those Who Harp" in the whole of Calimshan. Bids for
this extraordinary document will be welcome, a base of 100 000 Bc has
been settled upon. We will continue to publish progress reports as
the bids come in.
And finally we report the sad death of stumpy, the dog who has been
watching over his master's grave for the past five years. The whole
city was touched last year when he successfully defended the grave
against ghouls and alerted the Night Watch. He will be missed by many
citizens. The Church of Torm will be conducting a memorial service in
his honour tomorrow.
