The hill of Rogues prospect has seen a great deal of activity in the
last 48 hours. It began with disquiet about the ongoing fire in the
municipal dump near Dwarf Forge. When the wind shifted around so it
was blowing the smoke in their direction, many were concerned. An
apparently unrelated fire in the Feathered Head-dress Inn has upset
many people, not least the Inn's owners who have prayed for
assistance.

The whole NE sector of Calimport is concerned about the fire, and many
are the rumours laying the blame at this of that door. One thing is
for certain, the city fire-keeping authorities have handled the whole
situation ineptly.

City authorities have closed the SE graveyard following a series of
incidents of grave and tomb robbing or disturbance. Branch Necros of
Magicians Guild have averred that none of their members is responsible
- indeed, since the Caliph's novel scheme to license practitioners of
Necromancy in Calimport, the incidence of undead disturbances has
dramatically fallen. Acknowledgement must also be due to the Elves of
ElvenHaven and in particular Uliamber Koranthil the Undead Slayer who
monitors these incidents. It was he who recommended closing the
graveyard. He is also involved in the investigation of the so called
"Spectral Elf" along with Lassarail Goldmane.

Three groups of "adventurers" have gone in search of the White Dragon.
As yet, none have returned, which bodes poorly for the commercial
prospects of the Eastern caravan route. No caravans are scheduled
until the route is once more declared safe. The caravan markets in
the east of the city are clogged with goods, much of which will spoil
before the wagons will move. Reports from Keltar and Manshaka tell of
caravans stacking up awaiting word that the route is safe.

A number of people were hurt last night when a ceiling beam collapsed
in the Calim Grand Casino. Witnesses say it had been sagging for
several hours and although it had been brought to the attention of
casino staff, nothing was done. The Casino has been forced to shut
down for at least the next couple of days while structural surveys are
carried out and repairs effected. This is an unprecedented decision
as it is the most famous casino in all Faerun. We will pray it will
be back in action soon.

The Chultean involved in the disturbance at the Loviatar ceremony has
been arrested and charged. Samson Umtata is the son of Chief M'gbinga
Umtata, leader of a tribe of violent cannibals whom the Church Knight
of Torm have vowed to put to the sword. His trial is expected within
the next few days. The Loviatar ceremony, delayed by the earlier
disturbances, was performed yesterday evening, and concluded without
further interruption.

The Gnome Mines are still in isolation. A deputation of city
officials were prevented from entering as is their right by city
statute. Two of their guards suffered injury and the incident is
being brought before the Grand Vizier. It is believed his patience is
wearing thin with the attitude of the Gnomish community. It is the
fourth time in recent years that they have "quarantined" themselves.
The other ethnic settlements in Calimport are studying the possible
outcomes of the currently tense situation.
