Day 11 - Brandson

The next day, Pasha Angaril returned with a copy of GOLEMIC SCRIBES, which had a report on the battle from the day before. He then announced that it was time to make the move against Brandson. Reaver and the wererats guided them through the sewers to a main pipe along one side of which Reaver pointed out a concealed entrance to the sub-basement of Calim Grand Casino. The party managed to get though the concealed doors but were set upon by guards and from the end of a long passage three giant crossbows. The crossbows were co-ordinated so that a bolt was shot down the passage every 45 seconds or so, so it was a scramble to get to the crew before too many bolts were fired at them. It was a struggle, but they managed to depopulate the crossbows and put them out of action. While doing this, they suddenly found themselves being attacked form behind and had another struggle to drive them off - obviously the alarm had been raised. Moving swiftly, they penetrated further into the complex. They had to fight their way through another band of guards as they passed the barracks, but as they were going down a corridor, Corrie experienced a vision - a silvery outline round a door and a familiar unearthly ringing in her head, an omen from Elistraee! This bolstered her sagging morale, as she realised that Elistraee had not deserted her completely.

The door led to stairs leading down into dungeons, where they quickly dispatched a pair of guards and found Marie in a sorry state in one of the cells. Her hair had been burnt and pulled out in clumps, she was covered in bruises and fire and acid burns, her back was branded with the sigil of Parvel and her eyes held a terrible haunted look. She fell sobbing into her father's arms. The clerics healed her as best they could, but it was obvious the worst injuries were ones they could not treat physically.

They asked her if she knew where the amulet was - she said she had been taken to Brandson to explain about it but would say nothing, but he brought in a Psionicist who mind-raped her to get the knowledge. It was somewhere on this level as they did not go up any stairs. They then followed a passage, which led into what seemed to be a shrine to Mask. Standing near the altar was a pale skinned, dark haired woman. On seeing her, Marie broke away to attack her, screaming her name - Marina - in anger. As she approached, her body suddenly went limp as if she had lost control of it and the dagger she carried began to tun against her. The others found that they were stuck behind a shimmering wall of force, helplessly watching as the evil psionicist prepared to kill Marie. Suddenly Julienne appeared behind the woman and stabbed her, breaking her concentration.

Marie broke free of the mental control and with a scream of rage kicked her back against the stone altar. Taking Julienne's hand she carefully placed the dagger over the woman's heart and together they drove it home, killing her. The other then saw the two speak - Marie asking the young girl her name. When Julienne answered, Marie fell back almost in a swoon. Looking to her father for confirmation - he nodded - Marie suddenly burst into tears and drew her daughter into her arms. Corrie had to remind her that the barrier of force was still holding them. Julienne found how to disable it and Marie explained that this was not where she had been taken - the smell was wrong. They then backtracked and discovered that the layout of the tunnel had changed, when they came to a dead end without any passing any junctions.

The passage behind was also blocked off and they were trapped. Reaver and Crompton discovered a concealed trapdoor in the ceiling. This bypassed the trap and they continued into a laboratory where they were confronted by Brandson, Albermarll, the Priest of Mask who had geased Chartrise, an attractive female elven mage and two stunning twin sisters, wielding paired scimitars each. The amulet was here too, clamped in a frame. The battle was evenly matched until Corrie and Brandson both went for the amulet. Corrie got there first since the amulet leapt to her hand. Brandson and the mage escaped, leaving the twins to fight to the death. Corrie however activated the amulet and whisked them all back to Fallow's Cross.

Hardian, Reaver, Lassarail and Julienne were brought too, and later Chartrise was overjoyed to discover that her pony had been brought back as well

The aftermath of the events in Calimport took some time to quieten down. Corrie was in a state of shock and severe depression and retired to the Promenade of Elistraee to think about what had happened. Lucy was bitter and angry with everyone after the loss of the slave she had put a great deal of effort into training. Eventually she calmed down and began a process of self-discovery which would drastically alter her life.

Two other lives had been drastically altered in Calimport - Marie had discovered the daughter she had believed dead for over ten years. Julienne was shocked to discover she had a real mother and was embarrassed when she realised she had been flirting with her grandfather! The three of them went off to Cormanthor to allow Marie to recover and for mother and daughter to get to know each other. Before they left though, Marie spoke to Corrie, saying how while she was imprisoned she had time to think over her behaviour over the last few years. She apologized to Corrie for all she had gone through on Marie's behalf.

She also spoke to the whole group at Stanzfeld Mansion:

"This is my daughter Julienne. I know many of you do not like me, and I cannot say I can blame you. Please do not let your feelings for me affect the way you treat Julienne, my faults are my faults and she is innocent of them. I am sorry for the things I have done in the past which might have offended some of you - I have had time to think and realise I must change and make amends." and with that, the three departed. Chartrise however complained that they had missed lunch and was starving!
