News is arriving from Memnon of a great spell battle which has destroyed
the Hall of the Seven Swords. The conflict is something to do with a
new power struggle over the leadership in Tethyr. The events of the
past few days bode poorly for the region.
The rat plague is an ongoing problem, and the situation is growing worse.
News of sickness developing in the wake of the rat plague is now coming
in. Authorities are considering placing a quarantine around the So'quiful
district, north of Heaven's Lathe to control the spread of the illness.
The Spectral Elf seen something in the Northern Market and Central Bazaar
apparently accosted a group of Notherners. Eyewitnesses claim it passed
on a message of some sort before vanishing. More news as we find it.
A series of fights have broken out recently around the fringes of Orc
Spit. The culprits seem to be a group of Dwarven Battleragers who
arrived in Calimport a few days ago from the Great Rift in The Shaar to
the south. A spokesdwarf has said that the presence of an Orcish quarter
is considered to be a challenge to their honour. City authorities are
apparently giving them some leeway. This seems to corroborate the city's
unwritten policy of discouraging ORcish settlement in the city. Some
have claimed this policy to be racist. The fighting, however, seems to
have become a new spectator sport for the entertainment of the citizens.
Two ships collided in the harbour yesterday. The Swan's Whistle out of
Baldur's Gate and the Assad al'Dibdan from Huzuz in Zakhara were both
damaged in the accident. An argument the ensued between the captains which
almost escalated out of control when a Djinn was summoned by the Zakharan
vessel. Fortunately, Mages from the Guild were on hand to persuade the
elemental not to act precipitously. Both ships were towed to the Shipyards
and discussions are underway concerning compensation.
A seasonal sandstorm is reported some way out in the Great Desert.
Nomands are monitoring its progress and development. It is hoped that
it may be possible to divert it away from the city before it becomes a
threat.
The mage Shond Tharovin of Schamedar is looking to recruit a party of
adventurers to go with him on an expedition into the Forest of Mir. He
claims to know of a group of ruins lost in antiquity, which allegedly date
from the Shoon Empire, nearly two thousand years ago. He can be contacted
via the Temple of Azuth or via Purl Information Brokers.
We have been offered an article by a fashion correspondent from Waterdeep
for publication in this organ. Due to its length, it has been held aside
for inclusion in a new venture we have been considering for some time,
namely a monthly scroll of news from beyond Calimport. It is an interesting
venture and we shall be accumulating contributions for it, hopefully for
publication in the latter half of Alturiak, next year.
