The Liberation!

The members of Fallow's Cross Adventurers were to play an important part in the first major setback faced by the undead army of Maldanek. The surviving defenders of Silverymoon had gathered themselves into a resistance within and without the city and were a continual source of annoyance to the forces controlling Silverymoon. Alustriel was nowhere to be seen, however, and it was assumed she was preoccupied in some way, keeping her away from the city she loved.

The living population of Silverymoon was enslaved to provide workers for the undead army, filling position and performing work unsuited to Maldanek's undead minions. A band from Fallow's Cross, including Styrel and Hardian were instrumental in freeing a good proportion of the enslaved population and gave the forces of the resistance the opportunity to fight back, using the massed might of the clerics exiled from the city's churches. Their victory was swift and conclusive - the undead army was utterly destroyed and Silverymoon was freed! It was then discovered that Alustriel had been kept prisoner within her own palace during the occupation. Nobody to this day is quite sure how Maldanek achieved this.

This was the beginning of the end for Maldanek. Driven by his failure to hold Silverymoon, he attacked Waterdeep with all his forces. A large contingent of Fallow's Cross Adventurers were on the walls, helping defend Waterdeep. The battle was frantic, but it seemed the defenders were holding firm, when suddenly Maldanek himself appeared on the walls, choosing the section furthest away from The Blackstaff - the section defended by the Fallow's Cross contingent!

It suddenly appeared as though the forces of Hell itself were unleashed on the defenders. Several fell - Dathrel amongst them. Maldanek finally revealed himself as a fierce outer-planar fiend in human form, but the worst of his power was overcome when Mystra herself, using Styrel as a channel, neutralized him and allowed the forces from Fallow's Cross to win the day!

After the battle, a memorial was built by the wall where the battle against Maldanek took place. The memorial lists the names of those who took part in the battle and those who lost their lives. At the top of the list of heroes come the names of the more prominent members of Fallow's Cross: Jason of the Dark, Coromir Maralethion, Akordia Jhalavar, Marie Goldmane, Tommy Atkins, Djerrold, Kattie, Kromer, Styrel and Nevan, who was guided by Gond into building a sword capable of destroying Maldanek. These have become known as The Heroes of Waterdeep.
